Your prayers are requested for Ruth and family on the death of the Rev’d Stephen Demitroff. Stephen died early December 28 following a massive stroke. Stephen was ordained in 1984. His time in Huron included ministry at Glencoe and Newbury (1989-1996); Oldcastle/Colchester N (1996-2005) and Parish of the Transfiguration (Ridgetown, Dresden, Highgate, Aughrim, Florence and Thamesville) (2005 - )... The family and all who mourn his loss give thanks for your prayers. Blessings Canon sue

I email to share the funeral arrangements for the Rev’d Stephen Demitroff. The family will receive visitors at the DeBurger Funeral Home, Dresden, on Saturday December 31, from 7–9 pm and Sunday, January 1, from 2–4 and 7–9. The funeral will take place at Christ Church, Dresden, on Monday January 2, at 1:30 pm. Clergy are welcome to vest, the color being white. Your continued prayers for Ruth, family and all who mourn his loss are most appreciated.

We have completed another successful summer of ministry to the residents and campers at Rondeau Park. This year, our summer intern was Paul Silcox who arrived in time to start his summer ministry on the first Sunday of June. We hosted the parish picnic as a kick-off to fourteen Sundays of ministry in the park. We also held ten Wednesday Eucharists in July and August.

With cool weather all summer, our Sunday attendance was down over past years and consequently, our offerings were also down. On an up note though, our Wednesday attendance was up over previous years. We held one memorial service and one funeral in the Church this summer and we hosted Bishop Bob Bennett for the annual Bishop’s visit on August 17^th.

The roof on the Church and cottage, which was beginning to leak quite badly, was replaced this summer at a cost of $5,834.20. In addition, we did some minor repairs to the septic system which we hope will allow the system to keep working for a few more years.

We would like to thank the Kent Deanery Council for your $1,500. We would also like to thank St. Paul’s, Erieau, Trinity, Blenheim and the joint Chatham Churches picnic for their financial support this year totalling $1,715.05.

And a special thank you to the following ACW groups for their continuing support to a total of $900: Christ Church, Chatham, Christ Church, Dresden, Church of the Redeemer, Highgate, Holy Trinity, Chatham, St. Paul’s, Erieau, St. James, Wallaceburg, and the Ladies Guild of Trinity Church, Blenheim.

While support from our local Churches and ACWs was down about $1,500 over the last two years, we are very grateful for the support of all the groups who donated this year. This has helped us to keep our operating deficit under $1,400. Without all this great support, our deficit would have been over $5,500. Thank you everyone.

Business Arising From the Minutes –

In accordance with a motion passed 20 April 2010 the sum of $1500 was paid to Grace Church, Rondeau

for maintenance and building repairs.

Archdeacon suggested that the each church in the Deanery set aside one Sunday each year whereby the open offering be donated to Grace Church or that each parish designate a donation of approximately $100. Tabled for the moment as part of an on-going discussion.

Opening balance: $3946.57. Income from dues: $808.84. Expenses: $1995.55.

Closing balance: $2807.56.

Diocesan Council Report: Harvey German

Increase of 2.5% expected for apportionment and minimum stipend.

In September only one point of multi point parishes will be invoiced for single payment of stipend

Archdeacon’s Report – Visions, difficulties and redirections within the deanery, everything is on the table as we vision who we are in Kent.

Archdeacon thanked the representatives of the parishes for keeping up with their apportionments.

Reminded parishes to keep rectories in good condition and inspect on an annual basis.

Strategic Planning – Consult diocesan website http://missionconversations.blogspot.com/

It was suggested that Archdeacon Richard Salt and the strategic planning committee meet separately from Deanery council to discuss the plan. Suggested date was at St. James’, Wallaceburg on Saturday, 26 November 2011 between 10 AM and 12 Noon. To be confirmed.

New Business –

The Rev. Len Myers suggested that Deanery institute a process whereby we recognize sick and ailing members.

The Regional Dean proposed that in the future advertisements for parish events be distributed in printed form. Instead parishes will be encouraged to present a 5 minute (pictures are encouraged) overview of life in their various churches and communities.

A proposal to vision the future plans for the Deanery was made by Jane Cartier. It was thought this could be discussed at our February meeting.

Grace Church: Dennis Cartier gave a report on Grace Church – they had a successful summer. There was no regional funding but a Roast Beef Dinner brought in money so that helped. Repairing the weeping tile will be funded from the building fund, but we now need a new roof as well. Items from other churches that were closed are earmarked for Grace Church and will be brought to a deanery meeting.

Refugees: Rev. Kristen Oliver gave an update on the status of the refugee family. The family, a mother, son and daughter will be arriving on October 16th. Almost all the furniture is available except for needing one bed. A list of people willing to help is being compiled and they are looking for volunteers. Now that they know when they will be here, they will look for a place for them to live.

Bishop Terry Dance: Bishop Dance spoke on Diocesan happenings… A Diocesan Committee is working on the “Back to Church Sunday” program so it will be in place next year. He spoke on finances for the Diocese. He also spoke on how well Kent Deanery is doing.

Archdeacon’s Report: Archdeacon Salt reported that there are four new Archdeacons. He thanked everyone for the work being done in Kent Deanery.

Break: Thank you to St. James, Port Lambton Church of the Redeemer, Highgate and St. Peter’s Moraviantown for the hospitality tonight.

NEW BUSINESS

Venues and Meeting Dates , Jane Cartier: Question asked: Are you comfortable with our current meeting sites? Would you like to go back to meeting at each church in turn across the deanery? Moved by Dennis Cartier, seconded by Ron Hunter, that we continue to meeting in rotation in the three churches in Chatham – Holy Trinity, Christ Church, St. Paul’s – with the outlying churches taking turns providing the hospitalities. CARRIED.

Silent Night: Dennis Cartier gave a report from BAC regarding singing Silent Night by all churches on one Sunday, with proceeds to go to Military Chaplains. Asking people to give $2. A notice will go out about this endeavour with an explanation of what we use the money for. Congratulations to the BAC.

Safe Church: Venerable Willi Kammerer, Director of Human Resources, Registrar for the Diocese of Huron, Archdeacon of the Thames Valley and Archdeacon of Middlesex – An excellent power point presentation and talk on Safe Church, what it means and how it impacts each one was presented, with an opportunity for questions after.

~ October 3rd Dresden has a 10:00 a.m. anniversary service.

Following the break, we split into two discussion groups
With the cutting of Regional Funding, what are our priorities in Kent Deanery?
- The lay group agreed that the first priority is to keep an Anglican Church presence in Rondeau Park.
- There was some agreement, but not unanimous, that our second priority should be refugees.
- Most were in agreement that workshops should be held every three to five years.
- The clergy reported they had similar discussion to the lay results.

NEW BUSINESS:
A motion was presented to allot up to $1,500.00 of Deanery funds to Grace Church, Rondeau, provided that the Parish try to raise the funds before accessing this money.
Moved by Harvey German. Seconded by Simone McGuigan. Passed.
It was suggested that we hold a Grace Church day at every Church in the Deanery where the loose offering would be sent to Grace. The Grace Church treasurer reminded everyone that parishioners could also designate offering in their envelopes and therefore get tax receipts for their givings.
The Deanery requested that the Grace Church, Rondeau treasurer send monthly updates to the Deanery webmaster so all members will know how the fund raising is progressing.

New Business:
Refugee Program: The Rev. Kristen Oliver announced a plan whereby a refugee family come to Canada at a cost of $20,000 per year. This entails a $5,000 commitment from the national PWRDF and $15,000 from the Deanery of Kent (approximately $2,500 from each parish). Parishes would consult with their people as to their interest and intended level of involvement.
Lay Chair, Jane Cartier, announced planned visit of Diocesan Coach, Bishop Ed Leidel, on Wednesday, 31 March, at St. James Wallaceburg (7 PM) and encouraged attendance. “Our present decade is a tough one. Being the Church today is no piece of cake. The economics and politics of our world are in disarray. So how do we respond?” CANCELLED AS OF 10/03/10.

Our next meeting of the Deanery of Kent will be held at Holy Trinity,
Chatham on Tuesday 9 February at 7 PM.
The main topic to be discussed is "Who Is Your Neighbour" and to hear
presentations from the Wardens.
Refreshments to be supplied by Church of the Advent, Ridgetown; St.
Stephen's, Thamesville; and St. Andrew's, Tilbury.
We still require nominations for the following officers:

1) Youth Representations for Deanery and Diocese
2) Members at Large for Deanery Executive (must be a delegate to Synod)

Regional Dean David Fuller opened the meeting with prayer at 7:14 PM.
Canon Paul Rathbone presented the Diocesan budget on DVD followed by additional explanations and discussion.

Greetings to all!

There will be a 'Service of New Ministry' for the Reverend Gary Parker on 15 NOVEMBER 2009 (SU) at 4:00 p.m.. It will be held at St. Andrew's, Tilbury. Please come out and celebrate with Gary and the people of Tilbury and Comber as they begin this new journey. Gary's son, the Reverend Rob Parker, will be the guest preacher. Rob is currently serving as a chaplain in the Canadian Armed Forces.

If you are able to attend, please contact Father Gary so arrangements can be made for the luncheon following the service.

Thank you for your time and attention in this matter! God bless each of you as we end this Church year and prepare to start the new one!

Minutes of the September 22, 2009, meeting

1. Lay Chair, Jane Cartier, welcomed everyone and opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. The Rev. Len Myers and Shirley Sewell led in a short worship service.

2. Did you Know? In light of the Who is My Neighbour study by Mrylene Boken, some questions have been raised by the final generation churches. Jane indicated that according to Canons, when a church is stated to close:

All personal property of the church will become vested in the Incorporated Synod of the Diocese of Huron on the closing date of the church as set by Diocesan Council. Diocesan Council will be responsible for the disposition of all indisposed personal property that exists of the date of the closing of the church. At the final Vestry, any recommendations for the disposal of personal and real property can be made. These recommendations will be forwarded to Diocesan Council for their consideration.

3. Business arising form the minutes of February 17, 2009:

a) Several members who receive minutes through Canada Post requested that the font be enlarged on said minutes to enable ease of reading.

b) E-mail users indicated that it was difficult to open the attachments for minutes and agendas.

c) Jane indicated that the motion sent by Kent Deanery regarding the election/selection of Diocesan Council was tabled as there was a committee in place charged with reviewing all the canons and constitutions. The motion regarding the Episcopal Election process, especially in regards to meeting candidates, was referred to the same committee. The motion recommending the suspension of Regional Funding was defeated.

4. a) Harvey German gave the financial report which was accepted.

b) Dennis Cartier gave a report on the activities of Grace Church, Rondeau.

c) The Rev. Michelle Collins-Wongkee gave an update on the status of the shipping to Mtatha Diocese.

5. a) Lawrene Denkers gave a short report on the PWRDF’S Refugee Project.

b) George Allen gave an overview of a Legacy Giving Workshop Holy Trinity, Chatham, would like to have as a Deanery event.

c) Jane indicated that the Executive would like to have the Deanery sponsor a “Meet and Greet” for Bishop Terry Dance and a Workshop led by Bishop Ed Leidel during the next year.

Feedback was requested:

Moved by The Rev. Stephen Demitroff, seconded by Hugh Vallee that: A Deanery committee be struck to look at the sponsorship of refugees, seriously looking at funding, including beyond the Deanery, and that a report be given at the February Deanery Council meeting. Carried. The Rev. Kristen Oliver is to be the contact person for this committee. Anyone in the Deanery who is interested in serving on this committee is to contact her at St. Paul’s, Chatham.

Further support was given for the Legacy Giving Workshop, the “Meet and Greet,” Rondeau and Bishop Leidel. The Executive will present a budget at the November meeting to address these areas,

6. Shirley Cudmore gave a report from Diocesan Council with special emphasis on the financial woes of the Diocese. St. John the Baptist, Walpole Island, is now part of the Lambton Deanery.

7. Important Dates:

October 19 – “Meet and Greet” with Bishop Terry – to be determined

November 17 – Joint meeting with Lambton Deanery at St. James, Wallaceburg to receive the Diocesan budget.

March 31, 2010 – Session with Bishop Leidel.

Be prepared to ask questions, discuss where necessary and dialogue with colleagues.

Motion #1: Whereas many Synod delegates do not know Synod members from other deaneries, voting for someone unknown, defeats the purpose of a democratic process and further inhibits the communication process. One of the alternatives that needs to be explored is that of having a set number of members elected by each Deanery Council with no election at Synod, and;
Whereas, in these times of fiscal restraints, we need to explore options that will, at the very least, incur no increased costs;
Be it resolved that this Synod direct the Bishop to establish a task force to investigate alternative ways to elect a Diocesan Council. The task force, comprised of members from the Lay Co-Chairs and Regional Deans of the diocese, is to report back to 2010 Synod with options, including maintaining the status quo, for Synod consideration.

Motion #2: Grace Church, Rondeau – Parish Internship Programme.

Regarding Grace Church: Jane reported that St. Paul’s, Erieau had $500 in budget to cover deficit. Dennis on financial situation suggested that ACWs do support (to $100) financial cost as some do now. The mileage and salary are paid by the parish. Money that goes to the student does not help with costs of the parish.

Following a presentation of the Diocesan budget the meeting opened at 8 PM

The minutes were examined for omissions and errors and the following corrections were made:
1) Stan Pepper of St. Paul’s, Chatham announced a barbeque and day camp for 32 children.
2) 2) St. Stephen’s, Mitchell Bay was designated a Chapel of Ease pending the approval of diocesan council on 12 December.

Motion: to accept the minutes with corrections. Moved by Sue Martin. Seconded by Michelle Collins-Wongkee.

Query concerning funding for meetings with candidates for the position of suffrage bishop in 2009. Should deanery budget $500.00?

New Business:
A short review of deanery budget and proposed spending.

Motion: That copies of Huron’s diocesan history A Light In the Forest be distributed to local libraries after January 2009 (where it has not already been done) as an act of evangelism. Moved by Pierce Russell. Seconded by Dennis Cartier. Unanimous.

That the name of “Kent Deanery Ash Wednesday” be changed to “Kent Deanery Holy Day”

Proposed purchase of LED projector and that persons be held responsible for it through a sign in/sign out policy. The deanery would have first priority for its use.

Grace Church, Rondeau requests assistance from deanery for the funding of its summer student programme.

Review of Section 17 Safe Church policy by Regional Dean Paul Millward.

Shirley Cudmore had nothing to report concerning the Diocesan Council.

At a recent meeting in the deanery regarding the accessibility of Deanery churches it was brought to our attention that there is no firm information on whether the standard is set by the diocese, parish or provincial government. If renovations are undertaken at a church, then the act must be followed.

Diocesan directives for 2009:
A) Reach out with the gospel.
B) Who is my neighbour?

Pray for St. Aiden’s, Windsor.

Concern for the workload of the bishop. Area for future discussion.

Rewrite of motions to present to Diocesan Executive concerning funding for summer training ministries and examination of alternate forms of funding.

ORIGINAL MOTIONS READ:

Recomendation to Diocese by Deanery

A) Be it resolved that a task force be set up to investigate alternative ways to elect a Diocesan Council. The task force is to report back to 2010 Synod with options, including the status quo, for Synod Delegates to discuss. (May Synod delegates do not know Synod members from other deaneries. To vote for someone unknown, defeats the purpose of a democratic process and further inhibits the communication process between Council and the grass roots. One alternative that needs to be explored is that of having a certain number of members elected by each deanery and no election at Synod.)
B) Be it resolved that the full cost for parish internship programs be born by the diocese. (The internship program is designed to be of benefit to the entire diocese. Many of the internships are in small, rural parishes that bear the brunt of the cost. If the cost is shared throughout the diocese, everyone pays a little rather than a few paying a lot.)

Following a short presentation on Lambeth by Bishop Robert and a time for worship and meditation a meeting of the Deanery of Kent was convened at St. Paul’s, Chatham – 16 September 2008 – 7:00 PM
Jane Cartier, Deanery Council Chair, offered a “did you know session” and outlined the duties of the members of the Diocesan Council.
Minutes:
Following an examination for errors and omissions and the difficulties connected with their distribution by e-mail the minutes were passed unanimously. Moved: Harvey German. Seconded: Dennis Cartier.
Financial:
In the absence of the treasurer the financial report was presented for information purposes only by Regional Dean Paul Millward.
New Business:
Requests for Regional Funding to be received by 15 October 2008 as well as subsequent reports for use of funding.

The meeting of the Kent Deanery Council was called to order at 7:10 p.m. Everyone was welcomed by Lay Co-chair Jane Cartier.

Worship: Simone McGuigan led a Lenten meditation taken from Out of the Ordinary by Joyce Rupp.

Inclusion Activity: Our lay-chair Jane Cartier asked those present to form small groups for discussion purposes. Members were asked to work with people who were not from their parish. Five minutes was allotted for dialogue on ways decisions are made within the parish you attend. One member from each group reported to the assembly. Cards containing topics discussed were collected so that a composite list could be compiled for sharing.

Minutes of Nov.7th, 2007:
On a motion by Harvey German , seconded by Shirley Cudmore, the minutes were adopted as circulated. CARRIED

Business Arising from the Minutes
Wende Badder presented a report on the Ash Wednesday event “Seeds of Hope”. Fourteen participants braved the wintry weather to learn about what Lent means to an Anglican. An offering of $40 was collected for the community garden project. A full written report is available from the secretary.
Wende also presented a preannouncement concerning the August 18-22 “Lights Camera Action – God is our Director” vacation bible school. This event will be hosted from 9 – 12 each day at Christ Church and is open to the entire deanery. Wende provided posters for each church.
Steve Currie, a member of Adullam Camp Ministries, provided information about the camp to be hosted by St. Paul’s Chatham July 28 – August 1st. This activity is open to students in Grades 1- 6. It will run from 9 – 4 each day. One of the greatest thrusts of this adventure is leadership development. As a result, the camp will be run by trained students.
Members are still being recruited to work on a committee with Rev. Sue Malpus concerning youth ministry.
An Enviroaction CD was provided to each church building. The material contained on the CD is in both word and word perfect. The gist of the CD is how can the church help with saving the environment.

Financial Report
Derwyn Armstrong, treasurer, distributed a financial report. He then moved the acceptance of this report for information This motion was seconded by Rev. Rob Parker. CARRIED

Deanery dues were then distributed. Derwyn presented each parish with a self addressed envelop to return these dues. The dues will remain the same as last year.

Before the election proceeded, Jane Cartier explained the new format that we would be using in the Kent Deanery. There will be a lay chair and a lay vice chair. The regional dean will act as an advisor. Representatives who wish their names to be put forward for election to Diocesan Council will be gathered and then from these names, the Kent Deanery will elect a deanery representative to Diocesan Council. The person elected must win by a 50% majority.

Election of Officers:

Lay Chair: Moved by Harvey German and seconded by Barbara Wicks that Jane Cartier remain as Lay Co-chair. ACCLAIMED

Up to 5 Deanery Representatives to submit names for election to Diocesan Council: Shirley Cudmore, Harvey German, Derwyn Armstrong, Simone Mcguigan put forward their names.

Deanery Representative to Diocesan Council : after four ballots, Shirley Cudmore was declared our deanery rep.
On a motion by Dennis Cartier, seconded by Sue Martin, the ballots were destroyed.

Library Committee: Shirley Sewell, Sue Martin, Rev. Karen Nelles and Rev. David Fuller will remain as the library committee.

Archdeacon’s Report:
Rev. Salt sent his regrets. Rev. Millward distributed a handout outlining the duties of Territorial Archdeacons.

Break: Treats for this meeting were provided by St. Matthew’s, Florence and St. Stephens, Thamesville.

Report of Diocesan Council:
Simone McGuigan reported that:
Ø the budget was passed
Ø there were 9200 plus at the Sesquicentennial service
Ø the cross was damaged during its circulation. Repairs have been made but the rotation throughout the diocese was not completed.
Ø the settlement fund over payments will be forthcoming
Ø property insurance notices have been distributed
Ø Bishop Leidel has visited 35 parishes thus far
Ø parishes are asked to get their “Who is my neighbour?” demographic information completed and submitted
Ø the orders for the Sesquicentennial commemoration book must be in by Feb.25. There will be no reorders possible.

Other Business:
1. The Lay Readers’ training will take place on March 29 and April 5 in Dresden from 9-3. Rev. Demitroff indicated that topics to be discussed are biblical insight, theology, preaching, liturgy and leadership.
2. We are still looking for members on committees in the Deanery.
3. There will be a wardens and treasurers appreciation dinner on April 8th at Christ Church. The event will be from 6 – 8:30. Dinner will be followed by a sharing time.
4. The lay delegates will be invited to enjoy a similar evening on May 6 at Holy Trinity.
5. On June 22 Deanery Council will be held at 3p.m. at St. Matthew’s, Florence. Bishop Leidel will be our guest speaker that day. A pot luck dinner will follow.
6. A regular deanery council meeting will be held in September.
7. On April 12th a Bishop’s Module of Fresh Start will take place in Florence at St. Matthew’s. Gathering will begin at 9:30 followed by a 10a.m. start. The day will conclude at 12 with a catered lunch.
8. On a motion by Dennis Cartier, seconded by Rev. Demitroff, 15 extra Sesquicentennial books will be purchased by the deanery to be used as gifts and for purchase by churches requiring more copies after the cut-off date and 5 additional books be purchased for the deanery library for a total of 20 books. Carried.

Announcements:
Bill Elders asked that when intercessions are being prepared, that the need for doctors in our area be a consideration that is included in the prayers offered.

The meeting of the Kent Deanery Council was called to order at 7:00 p.m. Everyone was welcomed by the Regional Dean Rev. Paul Millward.

Worship:
Rev. David Fuller and Shirley Sewell led the worship.

Minutes of Mar. 6, 2007:
On a motion of Rev. John Hodgins, seconded by Shirley Cudmore, the minutes were adopted as circulated with errors to the spelling of names corrected. CARRIED

Business Arising from the Minutes
Three of the youth delegates, Eric Vande Velde, Geoff Millward and Anthony Praill were welcomed to the meeting. All three will be attending the youth synod prior to the diocesan synod.
Rev. Paul Millward explained that a motion was not sent to synod concerning the budget presentation. Cliff Crausland of Sarnia who is a member of the budget committee will be invited to attend a Kent Deanery Council meeting to hear and discuss issues voiced over the last budget presentation.
Up to 5 Deanery Representatives’ names for election to Diocesan Council may be submitted. We have three: Shirley Cudmore, Harvey German and John Findeis.

Financial Report
Derwyn Armstong reported a bank balance of $1621.50. He offered an appreciation to all parishes that had sent in their deanery dues. Derwyn moved the acceptance of his report. Jeannette Vidler seconded the motion. CARRIED

Archdeacon’s Report:
The Venerable Rev. Richard Salt had no report to make.

Clarification of Synod Motions:
Rev. Paul Millward spoke to the upcoming synod motions.
* He reminded everyone that section two contains the reports. The reports as well as the bios of those running for Diocesan Council should be previewed prior to synod.
* Motions 1 / 2/ 3 all contain housekeeping issues
* Motion 4 has to do with the legality of the terms rector / incumbent. Lay readers are to resign when a rector leaves and this is a time when they are most needed.
* Motion 5 deals with issues of staffing practices concerning hiring and dismissal. These times should include direct consultation with the Director of Human Resources.
* Motion 6 is an amendment of Canon 33 concerning the number of years of service.
* Motion 7 is a housekeeping motion to change the wording to coincide with the January 1st, 2006 reference to members’ contributions to the pension fund.
* Motion 8 comes from a notice of motion from last year’s synod. The change to the canon is not really a change to the practice.
* Motion 9 deals with the chaplaincy at St. Monica’s House.
* Motion 10 refers to the letter of acknowledgement concerning the appointment of a national indigenous bishop. This has already taken place.
* Motion 11 concerns the university chaplains and the years they are deemed on leave of absence from the diocese to work for the university. Rev. Salt distributed a report from section 2 that the Human Resource Committee has offered on this issue.

Report of Diocesan Council:
Simone McGuigan reported that there had not been a council meeting since our last deanery meeting.

Other Business:
Dianne Garrett, our lay representative for Kent, serving on the Sesquicentennial Committee, gave an animated report. She spoke of the showing of the DVD at Christ Church and suggested more parishes arrange a showing if they have not already done so. Dianne has spoken to eleven parishes in the Kent Deanery concerning upcoming events. She reported that 34 from Kent had signed up to join the choir. She also spoke to the transportation sign-up sheet and how important it was to have this information so buses could be ordered.

Shirley Sewell spoke to the Imagine Huron Survey results. One recommendation concerning the development of a deanery website was approved. On a motion from Rev. Karen Nelles, seconded by Rev. Stephen Demitroff, Shirley Sewell will contact Lawrene Denkers about setting up the website with the costs incurred covered by the deanery. Shirley is to send a card to Lawrene thanking her on behalf of the deanery for her kind offer to be web master.

The library committee displayed several books from the deanery library housed at Christ Church. They encouraged members to take advantage of this excellent set of resource materials.

Rev. Karen Nelles thanked Rev. Paul Millward for the excellent presentation on the clarification of the synod motions.

Refreshment Schedule: Treats for the September 18th meeting are to be provided by St. Stephen’s, Mitchell’s Bay, St. Andrew’s, Tilbury and Ascension, Comber . Rev. Michelle Collins-Wongkee volunteered to lead the worship.

Announcements:
* Rev. David Fuller reminded clericus that their June meeting would take place in Rondeau Park in order to meet the summer student.
* On July 11th, Bishop Howe will be celebrating communion at Rondeau at 10 a.m. with a potluck lunch to follow.
* Posters were distributed by Holy Trinity to promote the event to raise money to rebuild St. Judes Cathedral in Aqualuit. Bishop Atagotaaluk will be the guest speaker.
* Joy In Prayer at ELAM on May 5th
* The Sesquicentennial cross will be in the Kent Deanery in August. The first Sunday it will be at Walpole Island and the third Sunday it will be in Moraviantown.

Imagine Huron Survey

At the Deanery Council meeting on March 6th, Archdeacon Richard Salt asked that we, as the Kent Deanery, provide him feedback concerning some key areas identified in the Imagine Huron Report. This report was provided to Lay Delegates at last year’s synod.
It was decided at the Deanery Council meeting that the lay delegate(s) from each church should receive this survey so that they and their congregations could provide direct feedback concerning the issues identified. We often voice the opinion that we have no input… this was our chance to use our Deanery Council in a proactive way.

This survey was completed and returned to Shirley Sewell by April 12th so the results could be tabulated by the executive before the next meeting of Deanery Council, which was May 1st.

1. Are the current deanery boundaries relevant … do we need to flatten the boundaries … are they appropriate in the current configuration? Do they provide effective ministry in the format of today?

2. Two-way pathways of communication. It is recognized that communication at the congregational / parish / deanery / diocesan council / synod level is always in need of improvement and readjustment to be effective and timely. The communication flow has to go in both directions. How can we keep everyone “in the loop”? To begin your discussion you might want to refer to the handout distributed at the Deanery Council meeting suggesting pathways that might be explored to enhance communication.

We're just trying this out. Kent Deanery Council agreed at its last meeting that it needs a website. As the webmaster of www.parishofthetransfiguration.net had offered, it took her up on it. The problem is, that webmaster thinks things like, "Why wouldn't we make this a blog?" So let's see how this works.
